5 Transgender Women Who Inspire Me
Growing up in a world full of technology allows us to follow almost everyone’s every move. Here are 5 transgender women that inspired me to be true to myself throughout my early transition. All who have worked hard to showcase that being transgender doesn’t mean you can’t have a job and be recognized for your achievements.
Gigi Gorgeous
Her legal name being Gigi Lazaretto, she is known as Gigi Gorgeous through her social platforms. She dabbles in acting, modeling, internet personality and makeup. She has been awarded several committees.
Gigi has always drawn my attention. Since I found her back in 2008 when she identified as he/androgynous. I was in the midst of my very own androgynous phase and I found comfort in knowing someone else felt the same ways I did all while empowering society to see items associated with gender in a new light.
Janet Mock
Is an American writer who is a New York time best seller, hosting her own tv show, while maintaining her role as an activist for the transgender community. She’s also a contributor writer to Marie Claire and former staff member of People magazine website. In 2015 she was awarded by Times magazines as one of the 30 most influential people on the internet. These milestones show how passionate and dedicated she is to her career of writing. Something I would call very inspirational.
Andreja Pejić
An Australian woman who works full time in the modeling industry. First openly transgender model that was profiled by Vogue in May 2015 edition. Before coming out as trans she pushed the limits with gender expression both personally and professionally. Proving men can play the role of beauty without surgeries. Her spotlight within media alone had given her so much power to enlighten the world on a topic not long ago hidden in the dark.
Carmen Carrera
American reality personality/actress widely known from her appearance on the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3 where she debuted her return to the show as Carmen. Since coming out she has settled down and now is a mom. She continues to enjoy dabbling in a variety of performance styles. Since transitioning you can see just how happy she has become with herself and the people she surrounds herself with.
Laverne Cox
American actress, reality tv producer, LGBTQIA+ advocate. Most commonly known for her role in the very popular Netflix Orignal Series, Orange is the New Black. She was also Included in the 2015 most beautiful women’s list and nominated for the 2014 Transgender advocate of the year.
At the end of the day, these women are only a sliver of the beautiful trans women showing the world how powerful being yourself can make you. Just remember that no matter who you are and what stage you are at, you are beautiful.
Love your story and your inspiration for me too however you are on the list too.
